Humans, hedgehogs, cats and camels.. we are all fellow members of one almighty mob, the kingdom of Animalia.

Since time immemorial, we have shared the earth with animals as friends or foe, as our companions or beasts of burden; some to be feared, and others revered.

The word “animal” stems from the Latin anima, meaning “soul, spirit, breath of life”. Award winning photographer Rachael Hale has captured that spirit and soul in her animal subjects for the exceptional book, it’s A Zoo Out There.

Domestic and exotic, tame and feral, docile and riotous: this gathering of 101 of her favourite portraits is a dream come true for Rachael, a world-renowned photographer who has made her name portraying the magnificence of the animal kingdom.
